Rabbits and Coyotes in my neighbourhood

When the population of rabbits increased, so did the population of coyotes. I first started to notice the change on my walks. As I would walk along the footpath towards the neighbourhood park, the bushes would rustle beside me; on closer inspection, I could see a little brown rabbit running away. The next day, in the middle of the path, the rabbit lay dead. It looked to have been curled up in a fetal position when it died; its hind legs were mangled and stuck out at odd angles. The rabbit seemed to stare up at me with glassy eyes as flies began to lay eggs in its fur. On the way home, a coyote passed me; it stopped and considered me for a minute, maybe two, then we went about our days. Leaving the dirt path and the rabbit behind, I made my way home.  The next day, the rabbit was gone.
